Rachel Ellyard
Helena Hughes
Helena was recently appointed a St Peter’s People’s Warden. She has been a parishioner here for about 25 years, since moving to Melbourne to head AusAID’s Victorian Office. Discovering St Peter’s was a joy, for its splendid liturgy and music and its warm and eclectic people. She has been mostly involved as a long-term volunteer in the Bookroom and in various aspects of hospitality.
Helena’s working life centred on planning and delivery of Australia’s overseas development aid program. She was posted in several South East Asian countries, collaborating with governments, community organisations, UN agencies and the World Bank. Highlights of her career were seeing how good aid can change lives at the local level, interacting with dedicated people and exploring countries’ languages and cultures.
