Our friends at Christ Church Brunswick will be hosting a festival Evensong and lecture to mark the Feast Day of Charles, King and Martyr on Sunday, 3 February 6pm at Christ Church Brunswick. 

The speaker will be Archbishop David Moxon, former director of the Anglican Centre in Rome and Archbishop of Canterbury's representative to the Holy See.

The Archbishop will be reflecting on his life in Rome and his relationship with Pope Francis, as well as his important work with ecumenical education and refugee ministry.

The evening will include refreshments and all are warmly invited to join the community at Christ Church for what promises to be a wonderful evening.

Charles, King and Martyr

The Feast commemorating the martyrdom of Charles I has long held a special place in Anglo-Catholic spirituality. 

We traditionally regard Charles as a martyr because, it is said, he was offered his life if he would abandon the historic episcopacy in the Church of England but refused, believing that the Church of England was truly Catholic and should maintain the Catholic episcopate.

The Feast of St Charles the Martyr traditionally falls on 30 January, the date of Charles's martyrdom.
